A devastating petrol tanker explosion in Majiya Town, located in the Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has resulted in the deaths of at least 90 individuals. The incident occurred on Tuesday night.

Mr. Shi’isu Adam, the Police Spokesperson for Jigawa, confirmed the fatalities during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday. He also reported that 50 additional individuals were hospitalized with various injuries stemming from the explosion.

The explosion took place around 11:30 p.m. when the tanker driver lost control near Khadija University. The driver was en route from Kano to Nguru in Yobe State when the accident occurred.

Adam expressed concern over the public’s disregard for police warnings advising individuals to maintain a safe distance from fuel tanker accident scenes. He noted that the large number of casualties was attributed to onlookers congregating around the site of the explosion.

A mass burial for the victims is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, while the injured are currently receiving treatment at the Ringim General Hospital. (NAN)
