The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed on Tuesday that a building collapse in the Ikorodu area has resulted in the death of one adult male, with several individuals trapped beneath the rubble.
In a statement, LASEMA’s permanent secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, reported that a distress call was received at 2:02 p.m.
“Following the distress alerts at 14:02 hours, LASEMA activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from Agbowa and Alausa,” he noted.
Upon the arrival of the agency’s response teams at 14:40 hours, it became evident that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed, leaving three victims trapped beneath the debris.
“The exact cause of the collapse is still under investigation,” Oke-Osanyintolu added. “Three individuals are reportedly trapped, while rescue operations have successfully freed nine adult males, who are being attended to by LASEMA’s Pre-Hospital Care Unit.”
Safety protocols have been implemented, with the area secured to facilitate rescue efforts.
