The Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative has backed President Bola Tinubu’s working visit to the United Kingdom, saying the engagement will strengthen security and unlock economic opportunities for Nigerians.

The group said bilateral defence talks and the involvement of the National Security Adviser would attract global support in tackling insecurity, enabling farmers to safely return to their lands.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, GMI National Coordinator, Samaila Musa, said Nigerians stand to benefit significantly from Tinubu’s discussions with the British Prime Minister.

He noted that the President’s engagement with business leaders and the signing of Memoranda of Understanding on trade and solid minerals would open new opportunities for youths and drive job creation across rural communities.

Musa added that the proposed £746m deal to refurbish Apapa and Tin Can Island ports would boost trade efficiency and reduce the rising cost of goods in local markets.

“Better ports mean faster clearance of goods, which will ultimately ease the burden on traders and consumers,” he said.

The group also hailed the cultural diplomacy showcased during the visit, with Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, promoting Nigerian arts and heritage at the Royal Collection.

GMI, however, dismissed as false a viral social media post allegedly linked to former US President Donald Trump criticising Tinubu’s visit.

“This image is a total forgery. It is a desperate attempt by those playing politics without civility to distract from Nigeria’s diplomatic success,” Musa said.

He stressed that the visit holds practical benefits for ordinary Nigerians, beyond the ceremonial engagements at Windsor Castle.

The organisation further commended the inclusion of key ministers in the delegation, noting that critical sectors such as agriculture, solid minerals and the creative economy were adequately represented.

Musa urged Nigerians to support the administration, warning against the spread of misinformation capable of undermining national progress.

“To weaponise national security through fake news is an insult to victims of insurgency. Nigeria will not be distracted by digital falsehoods,” he said.

He added that the visit signals Nigeria’s renewed global relevance and commitment to attracting investment for grassroots development.

“For too long, Nigeria was sidelined. Today, President Tinubu represents the hopes of everyday citizens, from traders to students. This visit shows the Renewed Hope agenda is delivering results,” he stated.
