The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has launched a blistering attack on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, claiming the president has lost the support of credible Nigerians due to what it describes as catastrophic governance failures.

In a strongly worded statement, the opposition party asserted that those championing President Tinubu’s re-election bid are predominantly discredited politicians seeking protection from corruption charges and other alleged offences against the Nigerian people.

The APM further characterised the president’s supporters as “ethically challenged” figures who lack moral authority and cannot command genuine electoral backing. The party maintained that only individuals blinded by greed or cowardice would advocate for retaining an administration that has subjected citizens to unprecedented hardship.

Economic Crisis and Insecurity Dominate Criticism

The opposition party highlighted the government’s economic track record as particularly damning, pointing to crippling policies that have devastated the productive sector. According to the APM, these policies have resulted in mass business closures, widespread job losses, soaring living costs, and pervasive hunger across the nation.

Security concerns also featured prominently in the critique, with the party condemning the administration’s failure to address worsening insecurity, including terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and mindless killings of Nigerians.

Budget Controversy and Foreign Borrowing

The APM seized on recent revelations of inflated budget items in the 2026 fiscal plan, alleging that billions of naira from fictitious allocations are being diverted to private pockets of ruling party officials and their associates.

Additionally, the party raised alarms about the administration’s borrowing record, noting that external debt has reportedly reached a staggering $51.86 billion (approximately ₦74.43 trillion), which it described as mortgaging the nation’s future to foreign interests.

Opposition Rallies Behind Makinde

The party dismissed suggestions that President Tinubu could secure victory in a free and fair election, pointing to what it described as growing unease among ruling party supporters over the rising popularity of the APM.

The opposition party has thrown its weight behind Governor Seyi Makinde as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, positioning him as the “credible alternative” to the current administration.

The APM expressed confidence that Nigerians, whom it described as victims of the ruling party’s misrule, are increasingly rallying behind the party’s vision of economic prosperity, social stability, and national cohesion.

International Community Urged to Take Note

The party called on both Nigerians and the international community to scrutinise the calibre of individuals advocating for President Tinubu’s re-election, noting that many of his supporters hold foreign passports and maintain homes and families abroad, allegedly indifferent to Nigeria’s potential collapse under the current administration.

The APM’s statement concludes that re-electing President Tinubu would amount to endorsing more suffering, heightened insecurity, deepening poverty, and escalating hopelessness for the nation.
