President Bola Tinubu is set to declare open an international conference on security and national unity on Tuesday in Abuja.
The event, themed “International Conference on Security for Sustainable Socio-economic Development,” is jointly organised by Jama’atu Izalatil Bidiah wa Iqamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS Nigeria) and the Muslim World League of Saudi Arabia.
Chairman of the conference’s Media and Publicity Committee, Garbadeen Mohammad, announced this in a statement on Sunday. He explained that the gathering would examine global security dynamics while addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, and related threats to national stability.
The two-day conference, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, will also explore themes of Muslim unity, diversity, and peaceful coexistence across ethnic and religious lines. A national preaching session will follow on Wednesday evening at the JIBWIS headquarters in Abuja, continuing through the night, with participants departing on Thursday.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, will serve as Royal Father of the Day. Attendees are expected to include state governors, ministers, legislators, Islamic scholars, traditional rulers, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Muslim Ummah from Nigeria and beyond.
Mr Mohammad noted that the conference aims to foster dialogue, strengthen partnerships, and develop sustainable solutions to emerging security threats while advancing socio-economic development. The partnership between JIBWIS Nigeria and the Muslim World League underscores a shared commitment to social harmony, community cooperation, and inclusive coexistence.
High-level plenary sessions will address national security and socio-economic development in a global context, while expert panels will tackle counter-terrorism, armed banditry, and community resilience. Global partnership roundtables are also scheduled to promote sustainable development. The event is expected to serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and building alliances toward peace, stability, and long-term growth.
