President Bola Tinubu on Sunday congratulated winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory, Kano and Rivers states, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the electorate.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the polls were peacefully conducted across the six area councils of the FCT and in affected constituencies in Kano and Rivers.
The Independent National Electoral Commission conducted elections in the FCT area councils and by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers State. In Kano State, elections were held in Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies.
Tinubu charged the victors to serve with humility, patriotism and dedication, describing the mandate given to them as a sacred trust that must not be taken lightly.
The President also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as remarkable achievements in the territory, noting that the strides recorded had translated into political gains for the ruling All Progressives Congress.
He congratulated the APC national leadership as well as its Kano and Rivers chapters for emerging victorious at the polls.
Tinubu further lauded INEC, security agencies and voters for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise, saying their efforts reinforced public confidence in the democratic process.
The President praised the courage and discipline of all contestants, stressing that democracy thrives on participation and healthy competition.
He added that the successful conduct of the elections had further strengthened Nigeria’s democratic institutions and urged INEC to sustain efforts at delivering more credible and exemplary electoral processes.
