President Bola Tinubu has approved N21 billion for the construction of the Oko-Olowo Junction Flyover in Ilorin, Kwara State, following sustained legislative pressure from Senator Saliu Mustapha.

In a statement issued by his Media Assistant, Nasif Sholagberu, the Kwara Central lawmaker confirmed that the presidential nod came months after he moved a motion on November 26, 2024, demanding urgent federal action to curb incessant accidents and severe traffic gridlock at the bustling intersection.

The flyover is one of 27 road interventions earmarked for 15 states under the Federal Government’s ongoing infrastructure upgrade programme, designed to boost nationwide connectivity.

Beyond his Senate motion, Senator Mustapha revealed that he further lobbied the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, to ensure the project gained the necessary traction.

Reacting to the development, Senator Mustapha thanked the President for “responding to the aspirations of Kwara people” and lauded his administration’s dedication to critical infrastructure. He also commended the Federal Ministry of Works for facilitating the approval, expressing confidence that timely execution would deliver lasting benefits—improving road safety, easing congestion, and revitalising economic activity for motorists, residents, and businesses across the state.
