President Bola Tinubu has authorised a final six-month extension for the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, to oversee the completion of the National Single Window project.

Mr Adeniyi’s initial tenure extension, which was set to expire on 1 August 2026, will now run until February 2027.

This was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the President’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the statement, the extension is designed to allow Mr Adeniyi to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window initiative and facilitate a seamless leadership transition within the service.

During this period, the Comptroller-General will collaborate with the NCS Board to oversee the promotion of eligible officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs, as well as the retirement of officers who have reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years or completed 35 years of service.

Mr Adeniyi joined the NCS following his graduation from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in the late 1980s. He rose through the ranks, becoming Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023.

President Tinubu appointed him Comptroller-General of Customs in June 2023.
