President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed concerns regarding the emergence of a one-party state in Nigeria during his administration.
Speaking at a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja to commemorate Democracy Day on Thursday, Tinubu maintained that he would not counsel opposition parties to unite.
He remarked, “It is preferable to observe them (opposition parties) in such disarray.”
Furthermore, Tinubu emphasized that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be engaging in political malpractice if it were to prevent opposition members from joining its ranks.
“Nigeria will not transition into a one-party state. Such a scenario is not on the horizon. However, it would be political malpractice for us to shut our doors to those wishing to join the APC,” he stated.
