The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the nation’s regulatory authority for telecommunications, has witnessed a significant transformation under the leadership of Dr. Aminu Maida, the current Executive Vice Chairman (EVC).
Since assuming office, Dr. Maida has brought fresh energy, strategic thinking, and a reform-driven mindset that is repositioning the NCC as a pillar of Nigeria’s digital future.

At the heart of Dr. Maida’s vision is a deep commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure, ensuring regulatory transparency, and expanding digital access to underserved communities. His leadership has inspired confidence among stakeholders, driven innovation across the sector, and encouraged stronger collaborations between the public and private sectors.

One of the standout achievements under Dr. Maida’s leadership is the acceleration of 5G deployment across Nigeria. The NCC, under his watch, has not only facilitated smoother spectrum allocation but has also ensured that security, affordability, and accessibility are top priorities. The Commission’s recent partnership with Swedfund to bolster 5G network security is a clear demonstration of this balanced approach.

In the area of digital inclusion, Dr. Maida has made it a priority to bridge the digital divide. The Digital Awareness Programme (DAP), which recently won Nigeria the 2025 WSIS Prize for Access to Information and Knowledge, is a prime example. This initiative has equipped over 300 schools with ICT tools and internet connectivity, transforming learning across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Moreover, Dr. Maida has emphasized transparency and accountability within the Commission. His reform-driven style has enhanced the NCC’s reputation as a regulator that listens, engages, and acts in the public interest. From supporting local content in ICT to promoting innovation hubs, the NCC is now a stronger enabler of Nigeria’s tech-driven economy.

In a sector often plagued by bureaucracy and slow adaptation, Dr. Maida stands out as a leader who is not just talking transformation—but driving it. His blend of professionalism, integrity, and passion for national development makes him one of the most effective public administrators in Nigeria today.

The transformation of the NCC is still unfolding, but one thing is clear: with Dr. Aminu Maida at the helm, the future of Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape is in very capable hands.
