Kashim Shettima, the Vice President, has revealed how he nearly faced impeachment as the Governor of Borno State under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Shettima expressed that he was one of the most scrutinised public figures during the final years of Jonathan’s presidency.
Speaking in Abuja on Thursday at the launch of “OPL 245: Inside Story of the $1.3bn Nigeria Oil Block,” authored by the former Attorney General Mohammed Adoke, Shettima shared his perspective.
He said, “In the last four years of Jonathan’s administration, I was the most demonised individual; I was considered public enemy number one.”
He added, “In a rare meeting involving key figures—the President, Vice President, Senate President, and House Speaker—there were discussions about my potential removal from office.
“Aminu Tambuwal, who was then the Speaker of the House, had the courage to tell the President that he lacked the power to dismiss an elected councillor.
“Nevertheless, the President was not persuaded and brought the issue up at the Federal Executive Council.”
