Grammy-winning artist Tems has disclosed receiving death threats following unfounded rumors of her being pregnant with American rapper Future’s child.

Despite speculations fueled by her appearance at Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2023 London Fashion Week show, Tems clarified in a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, that the rumors are baseless.

The songstress, renowned for her collaboration with Wizkid on ‘Essence,’ faced online backlash as social media users questioned her alleged pregnancy and choice of Future as the father.

Tems, who won a Grammy for ‘Best Melodic Rap Performance’ in February, expressed astonishment at the severity of the threats, emphasizing that she has never met Future, even though they collaborated on the hit song ‘Wait For U’ with Drake.

Tems, born Temilade Openiyi, gained global recognition in 2020 and was honored by TIME magazine in 2023.

Addressing her shift from Afrobeats to R&B, she explained in August that she sought a different “spiritual stimulation” not found in Afrobeats and was willing to stand by her choice, stating, “I was prepared to die” for her belief in R&B.
