The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) on Friday commended Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports, Chief Donatus Agu Ejidike, for redeeming his N1 millon pledge to the Super Eagles.

The pillar Ambassador who had earlier promised to give the country’s senior men National team N1 million per goal at the final of the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast on Sunday.

This was contained In a statement signed by the SWAN President, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Association’s Secretary-General Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo said the steady support by the Pillar of Sports to the Super Eagles, other national teams and indeed the various sporting is worthy of emulation.

Q”Nigeria’s Pillar of Sports who is also a Patron of supporters club has been doing tremendous in using his personal earnings to drive sports development in Nigeria.

“One will think that he might renege on his promise after the team couldn’t win, but he went ahead to hand the money over to them. I mean, this is the way to go.

“His kind gesture over time is what our dear nation needs at this time and always. We therefore enjoin other well-to-do individuals and corporate organisations to emulate him by using Sports to create pathways for youth engagements, thereby reducing unemployment and insecurity,” he said.

Meanwhile, SWAN has congratulated its former Deputy President, Alhaji Umar Sa’id, who was recently appointed as a member of the newly constituted management team of one of Nigeria’s foremost clubs Wikki Tourist of Bauchi State.

The Association also congratulated Dauda Chiroma, the General Manager, Albarka Radio Bauchi, who is a staunch SWAN member for his new appointment in the club.

While sending his felicitation, the SWAN President, Mr. Benjamin enjoined them to professionally contribute their quota in the upliftment of the club.

He also prayed Allah to grant them the wisdom to function optimally in their positions.
