The House of Representatives members-elect from the North West geopolitical zone have declared support for the Speakership bid of Tajudeen Abbas in the 10th National Assembly.

The lawmakers-elect made the declaration in a communique issued after a meeting of the caucus held Tuesday night in Abuja.

The communique was signed by Alhassan Ado Doguwa, majority leader and chairman, North West Caucus of the 9th House of Representatives.

The caucus said the APC zoning arrangement for 10th House speakership was in order and a reflective of the federal character principle as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.

The lawmakers-elect said the National Assembly is a critical institution in Nigeria’s democracy and that whoever must preside over the House of Representatives must not only be experienced in legislative affairs but competent and well versed in the affairs of governance of the country.

While describing Abbas as an excellent lawmaker with years of cognitive experience, they appealed to other speakership contestants to shelve their ambition and pave the way for his emergence as the speaker.

But reacting, Wase said he won’t step down because his contest is in pursuit of a prophecy by the former governor of old Plateau State, late Solomon Lar.

He spoke yesterday during the valedictory session of the 9th House of Representatives in Abuja.
