The All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders from Taraba South, have written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, asking him to consider the zone for ministerial and other top federal appointments.

In the letter, signed by Jamilu Bawa, Chairman Taraba APC Youth Forum on Monday, the stakeholders said Southern Taraba deserved such consideration as it had worked assiduously for APC’s victory in the state.

”It is in record that Southern Taraba APC produced the most elected office holders.

”Southern Taraba has become the APC zone, where a senator was produced and all the two House of Representatives members.

”The only APC senator in Taraba was produced from the southern zone and it is imperative to state here that, in the recent concluded presidential elections, the southern zone of Taraba performed optimally for the party with 81, 568 in the zone and 135, 165 votes garnered in the the state for the presidential elections.”

The group, which congratulated Tinubu over his victory at the polls, prayed God to grant him wisdom to stir the affairs of the country, and also expressed optimism that the Almighty would endow him with all the necessary tools and good health to lead Nigeria into greatness.

”Once again, we congratulate you on your inauguration and the birthing of the renewed hope administration.

”This letter could not have been written at a better time than now because, as congratulatory messages are pouring in, we are sure, you are already considering names with a view to forming a cabinet as soon the 10th assembly is inaugurated.

”As a committed progressive, cum determined democrat, and one who possesses the spirit of rewarding hard-work, this letter cannot wait for another time,” the letter read.

The APC youth group also drew the attention of the president to the ”actors” behind the performances of APC in the last Presidential and National Assembly elections.

”Before the elections Mr President, the APC in Taraba had been enveloped in simultaneous crisis which was well pronounced. The cause of such crisis has been in public knowledge which we wouldn’t want to highlight here.

”The domino effect of the crisis, was blatant and revealing Mr President, despite the fact that you never came to Taraba for the presidential rally as done in other states of the federation.

” Some APC members in Taraba never allowed that to dampen their enthusiasm in supporting your candidacy, regardless of the use of religion to weaponise the campaigns then, Southern Taraba, even as a Christian dominated hub in the state, remained the only place where a pre-election campaign rally for Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima took place.

”On Jan. 19, 2023, Mr President, Chief David Sabo Kente, Gen. A.T Ibrahim Rtd, Prof Dalhatu Sangari, Chief Ezekiel Irimiya Afukunyo, and a host of others, stormed Wukari and held what became the only political rally as part of your campaign programme, tagged: Southern Taraba Zinal Rally For Tinubu/Shettima.”

According to the stakeholders, the programme, which was sponsored by the aforementioned individuals, was the flashpoint and game changer for the APC in Taraba State.

”At this juncture sir, we like to state that in politics, reward is sacrosanct. We know that immediately the 10th assembly commences, Mr president will set up his government. Frankly, all APC stakeholders in Taraba State are befitting to be appointed into ministerial positions and other parastatals.

”But, Mr president it is also paramount to note that since the formation of APC in 2015, the Taraba Northern Zone has enjoyed all the three ministerial slots from the APC government. While the Central zone has also enjoyed several other leadership positions such as the chairmanship of the party and other federal appointments.

”Sen Aisha Jummai Alhasan of blessed memory, Engr Sale Mamman, and Engr Muazu Sambo Jaji, were all from the Northern part of the state, and were all made ministers.

They, however, expressed confidence in the president’s respect for democratic tenets and his firm belief in rewarding sacrifices.

”In accordance to your famous quote, it is “Emi Lo Kan” for southern Taraba. In fairness for the role played by southern Taraba stakeholders such as Sabo-Kente, Afukunyo, Ibrahim, Sangari, and a host of others.

”We are appealing to Mr President to beam your touch light to the zone in search of competent men of honour for ministerial appointment in Taraba State,” the Taraba South APC stakeholders, concluded in the letter..

SDP condemns Kogi govt’s ban on rallies

Published

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi State has condemned the ban on political rallies and convoys imposed by the state government.

State Chairman of SDP, Mr Ahmed Attah, issued the condemnation in a statement signed by the SDP Press Secretary, Isaiah Ijele, on Tuesday in Lokoja.

The party described the ban as an attack on democratic principles and a blatant attempt to silence opposition voices.

Attah urged Gov. Ahmed Ododo to learn from the past and avoid repeating old, harmful practices that have hindered the state’s progress.

“The party views this action as an attempt to suppress the freedom of association and movement enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.

Attah insisted that the state is not at war and urged the government to focus on development instead of engaging in political manoeuver.

He warned that Kogi must not return to the dark days of repression, particularly against the opposition. (NAN)

“The coalition of opposition leaders needs a candidate that is vigorous; a strong candidate to brighten its chances in 2027. The coalition needs somebody with a clear agenda and a clear vision.

“The opposition needs a candidate with a strong background of integrity. Nobody is perfect, but you need a strong background of integrity.

“The opposition needs somebody who is morally and mentally competent, and physically fit. The opposition does not need the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or any old person if it wants to win.

“The opposition doesn’t need any old person now. It is time to use the energy of the young.

“They must present a strong candidate, who is strong morally, mentally, and physically, with a clear patriotic agenda to move the country forward, ” Onovo said.

He added that the coalition had a lot that could work to its advantage in 2027 and urged members to work with unity of purpose to achieve convincing victory.

Also speaking on chances of the ruling party in 2027, the politician said APC could remain in power if the challenges arising from subsidy removal and other economic issues were addressed by the present administration.

APC grants Governor Otu automatic ticket for 2027 election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River on Monday granted Gov. Bassey Otu and his deputy, Mr Peter Odey, an automatic ticket for the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the APC Secretariat in Calabar, the party’s Chairman, Mr Alphonsus Eba, urged other party members aspiring for political positions to begin their consultations.

Eba clarified that apart from the governor and his deputy, no other individual had been given an automatic ticket by the party.

He encouraged other aspirants to return to their constituents and seek their support ahead of the elections.

“The State Working Committee and the State Executive Committee of APC met today and resolved that Governor Otu will be the party’s sole candidate in 2027,” he said.

He explained that the decision was based on the principle of continuity, stating, “Nobody changes a winning team. The governor and his deputy will fly the party’s flag in 2027.”

He added that even if Otu was reluctant to run, the party would still present only one ticket with his name, as was done in 2022.

“We appeal to him to listen to the desires of party members and accept the nomination,” Eba stated.

He also praised the deputy governor, currently acting as governor, for supporting President Bola Tinubu’s actions in Rivers.

Eba noted that some individuals had misrepresented the state’s position. He commended the acting governor for clarifying that South-South governors had not consulted him before opposing Tinubu’s decision.

He applauded the President for restoring peace in Rivers, preventing a political crisis. (NAN)
