Governor Chukwuma Soludo has announced that additional Nigerian Army officers will soon be deployed to Anambra State, as part of plans to establish a new military barracks to combat rising insecurity.

Speaking in Awka on Friday during the third anniversary celebration of the Eighth Anambra House of Assembly, Soludo disclosed that a delegation from the Nigerian Army had already visited the state to assess locations for the proposed barracks.

The governor said the fight against crime was already yielding results, with peace restored across communities, aided by the support of President Bola Tinubu. He praised the Tinubu administration for its ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity nationwide.

Soludo also commended the state lawmakers for enacting legislation that enabled the executive arm to deliver democratic dividends to the people, and reaffirmed democracy as the best form of government in the public interest.

Earlier, Speaker Dr Somtochukwu Udeze said the assembly would continue to pass laws and resolutions with a positive impact on citizens, noting that the state’s progress transcends political affiliations. A thanksgiving mass marked the assembly’s third anniversary.

The Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, lauded the cordial relationship between the legislature and executive, praising the speaker’s “specialised” leadership style for fostering cross-party harmony.

House Committee Chairman on Information, Ejiofor Egwuatu, described the quality of recent legislation as evidence of political maturity in Anambra, urging lawmakers to prioritise citizens’ welfare and handle disagreements with diplomacy.
