The Sokoto State Chapter of Gender Based Violence/ Child Protection Response Team (SGBV/RT Tuesday appealed to the Nigeria Police and NAPTIP to avoid the hide and seek game and commence immediate prosection of Fausiyya Rabo Dogon Daji for alleged trafficking, child labour, maltreatment, cruelty, torture, intimidation and threat to the life of 14 years old Bashariya Usman. 

The group, in their unanimously criticism of the prolong silence from the relevant authorities, feared if there is element of compromise, “an act capable of hampering justice”, they said. 

According to the group, a very scary and disturbing video of brutalized 14 years old  Bashariya Usman emerged on the 4th of June, 2025 setting the social media space agog with utter bewilderment over such degree of human cruelty. 

Following the development, a formal complaint was sent to the Director General of NAPTIP through the Sokoto Zonal Command of the agency, wherein, it was stated that, Fausiya Rabo Dogon Daji employed one 14 years old Bashariya Usman whose parents fled banditry attacks in Zamfara to Sokoto as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

Part of the letter read, ” That Fausiya took the innocent girl to Abuja as a maid with the promise to the girl’s parents that she will give the girl a better life by enrolling her in a part time school”.

The complaint letter added however that, “since their arrival in Abuja, Fausiyya Rabo had starved, assigned excessive household chores, beat, maltreat, physically and emotionally abused, isolate and subject the young Bashariya to torture amongst other degrading experiences.

The gender based violence response team which comprises of diverse CSOs, CBOs, representatives from the various ministries, department and agencies therefore appeal for strengthen ties in identified gaps towards attainment of effective service delivery for survivors of GBV, HP, and other forms of violence. 

Addressing members in his welcome address, the chairman of Sokoto SGBV/RT Malam Rabiu Gandi thanked members for their sustained commitment to the noble cause of working towards ensuring a society free of all forms of violence, be it emotional, psychological, physical, economical or otherwise

Presenting their report, the NSCDC said they had 3 cases for the month of July with one being that of sodomy and the remaining two are of rape. 

On the side of the Police, the said 15 cases of GBV have so far being recorded from January to date, with 10 being rape, 1 defilment, 1 criminal conspiracy and rape, 3 sodomy and 1 criminal conspiracy and child stealing.

Speaking on how insecurity is making people vulnerable to abuse, Baba Shehu Usman, the Regional Coordinator of 
Grassroots Intitaive for Strenghten Community Resilliance (GISCOR) decried that no fewer than 15,000 people have been displaced from communties in Sabon Birni and Isa local government areas of Sokoto State, thus constituting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the towns.
 

Baba Shahu Usman, who is in charge of Katsina, Sokoto and Zamfara States reaffirmed that such displacements poses great risk for rape and violation, hence calling on the government to come to their aid
Present at the meeting are the State chapter NBA chairman, NACTAL National President, Chairman of the State Response Team, Sokoto Director of Public Prosecution, Officer in Charge of Gender Desks from the Nigeria Police and NSCDC as well as that of NAPTIP

Others also include, the State Permanent Secretary of Ministry for Women and Children Affairs, the Gender Focal Officer of the State Primary Health Care, leaders and representaives from various CSOs, CBOs, as well as Media houses.
