Former Minister of Water Resources and Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Barrister Mukhtar Shehu Shagari, has commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his administration’s robust approach to security and human capital development, particularly the recent procurement of 62 armoured vehicles for security agencies.
Shagari, who now chairs the Governing Board of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), described the governor’s sustained investment in security as “responsible leadership” and a testament to his commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
In a statement issued by his media office, the former deputy governor noted that the administration’s proactive measures have significantly restored public confidence and stabilised communities previously plagued by criminal activities.
“Security remains the foundation upon which economic growth, social development and sustainable prosperity are built,” Shagari stated. “Governor Ahmed Aliyu has shown commendable commitment in confronting security challenges. His administration has consistently demonstrated the political will required to support security agencies in discharging their constitutional responsibilities.”
Shagari praised security forces for their sacrifices while acknowledging that the governor’s provision of logistics, operational assistance and strategic collaboration had strengthened efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping and other forms of criminality.
“Our security agencies deserve the appreciation and support of all Nigerians. Their dedication, courage and patriotism continue to make a significant difference,” he said.
The NIWA chairman observed that the gradual restoration of peace across several parts of the state had stimulated economic activities, encouraged investment and enhanced public confidence in government institutions. Farmers, traders and entrepreneurs, he noted, are now pursuing their livelihoods with greater assurance.
“The progress being recorded in the security sector reflects Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s determination to create a peaceful environment where businesses can flourish and citizens can live without fear,” Shagari added.
He maintained that security remains a cardinal priority of the APC-led administration in Sokoto, describing it as fundamental to achieving lasting development.
Shagari called on residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, stressing that community participation remains indispensable in the fight against crime. He also urged traditional rulers, religious leaders and youth groups to collaborate in sustaining the peace.
“The protection of lives and property is essential to building a prosperous and stable society,” he concluded.
