In a major development for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Hon. Gloria Sarauniya Usman has emerged as the State Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a peaceful and well-attended congress held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, 6 May 2025.
Delegates from across the FCT gathered to elect key officials into strategic leadership positions. Hon. Gloria’s election was widely hailed as a move that reaffirms the party’s commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots empowerment.
A respected figure within political and civic circles, Gloria brings a wealth of experience to the role. Before joining the SDP, she served as the Deputy National Contact and Mobilisation Secretary of the PDP Professional and Business Group (PDPPBG), where she championed community development and professional engagement.
Her ascension to the post of State Secretary has been described by party stakeholders as a strategic boost to internal party coordination. Her reputation for humility, administrative skill and dedication to youth and women’s inclusion has earned her praise across the party’s six area councils.
“She deserves this position,” said one delegate. “Hon. Gloria Sarauniya has been a pillar in the party, always working behind the scenes to promote its values—even when it wasn’t politically convenient.”
