Chief Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum to relinquish control of the party structure in Rivers State to Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

This declaration comes in the wake of the forum’s recent meeting in Jalingo, Taraba State, where they expressed support for Fubara amid ongoing political tensions with Wike.

During a state congress for PDP stakeholders held in Port Harcourt, Wike issued a stark warning to the governors, threatening to incite unrest in their respective states should they attempt to alter the party’s structure. He stated, “Let me assure you, not while we live, will anybody take away the PDP structure from us.”

Wike further commented on the ambitions of certain governors, saying, “I hear that there are some governors who said they will take away the structure and give it to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states. When God has given you peace, you said you don’t want peace; whatever you see, you take.”

As the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Wike urged party members to unite and focus on reclaiming control of the state government by 2027. He emphasized, “Yes, we have done our part by electing a government in the state. If the government says it does not want you, you don’t kill yourself; will you run away from the party? We are party members, and we have taken over the party.”

Wike expressed confidence in the future, stating, “We did it; God did it in 2023. The same God will allow us and support us in 2027. Let nobody be intimidated. I know how it feels to work hard only to be pushed away. I understand how disheartening that can be.”
