Professor Stephen Tijani Edino, a renowned medical expert with bias in general surgeon was the pioneer and immediate past Chief Medical Director, CMD , Kogi State University Teaching Hospital, KSUTH, Anyigba.

Before his appointment which ended in 2016, the medical expert had worked with the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada among many others tertiary health institutions in Nigeria and outside the shores of the country, and returned to the hospital after his stint at KSUTH, Anyigba.

He laid a solid foundation for the transformation of the new tertiary health institution through the laying of foundation of a befitting edifice of 250 bed hospital, that was undergoing construction before his exit as the Chief Medical Director.

His acceptance and appointment as Chief Medical Director in 2021 contributed to the development of both primary, secondary and tertiary health care of the people of kogi state with the new status of a University Teaching Hospital.

The recognized and renowned medical surgeon with National / International exposure attracted both local and foreign medical expert to the new teaching hospital and also attracted medical aides of various forms and degrees to the new tertiary health institution.

He established and commenced the Faculty of Medicine of the Kogi State University and admitted the recent medical graduates of the University who were recently celebrated by the state government as a full fledged Medical Doctors .

Edino who had decades of medical sojourn brought succour to Kogi state and by extension the first university established by Kogi State Government, Prince Abubakar Audu University PAAU , by giving room to the establishment of other medical departments in the institution.

Conversant with the activities at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Professor Edino returned to the nation’s capital tertiary health institution to handle the entire emergency unit of the hospital for many years, before his redeployment to another department.

As a senior surgeon and consultant, aside handling the activities of the emergency unit of The University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada, UATH, he also consulted for other departments of the hospital for ease of providing medical attention to many patients, trooping into the hospital on daily basis.

Professor Edino was later moved to Medical Out Patient Department (MOPD) as Chief consultant that oversee all medical related outpatient that had appointment with the hospital.

The renowned surgeon and medical consultant as a senior staff of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada UATH, has contributed a lot to the development of the tertiary health institution.

He had diligently on various capacities served the nation, his state of origin and currently still in the service of the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada UATH, as a very senior medical consultant and expert.
