Presiden Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the N9 billion Hadejia Valley Irrigation Scheme (HVIS) rehabilitation project in Auyo Local Government Area of Jigawa.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony president Buhari said, the project is part of their fulfilment of campaign promises which included providing more enabling environment for modern agriculture practice for achieving food security.
He explained that, the project was executed under the Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING) programme, which was supported by the World Bank special intervention.
“I personally flagged off this project in 2018 for the rehabilitation of existing gravity irrigation area, involving about 5,346 hectares, and expansion of about 778 hectares as well as the rehabilitation of the barrage, I thanks God for achieving this goal”.u
President Buhari than charged farmers to embrace modern technology for improving their agricultural outputs, for food security , industrialization ,growth and development.
During his visit to Jigawa, president Buhari however commissioned Malam Alu Ago Allied Company and unveiling of Tallest Flag in Nigeria at Birninkudu local government in JIgawa state.
“I’m impressed with the structures and modern farming system seen at Malam Alu farms , I am appealing to other wealthy people to also invest in agriculture for enhancing our food security and jobs creation ”
Speaking earlier the chairman of Malam Alu farms, Honourable Faruk Adamu Aliyu said the farm is initiated and established under the president Muhammadu Buhari’s fertilizer initiative project.
Honourable Faruk Adamu Aliyu Sa’id, he collected N800 million loan facilities from the central bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the project, which is now employing hundreds of workers and also contribute in to national food basket.
Among the dignitaries that recieved the president at the farm included JIgawa state governor Muhammad Bdaru Abubakar and PDP national figure, Alhaji Sule Lamido.
