Posters suggesting a political alliance between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai for the 2027 presidential race have been labeled as false by Rt. Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to Akpabio.
“These rumours are mischievous and frivolous,” Eyiboh stated in a press release on Wednesday.
“Senator Godswill Akpabio has no intention of running for president in 2027 nor is he considering a joint ticket with El-Rufai or anyone else.”
Eyiboh emphasized, “This is the handiwork of mischief makers and fifth columnists aiming to tarnish the reputation of the President’s loyalists. Such actions are spurious and baseless.”
Currently, Akpabio is focused on supporting President Bola Tinubu’s administration through legislative collaboration, Eyiboh added. “Since June 13, 2023, Akpabio has been dedicated to his role as Chairman of the National Assembly, and has never contemplated a presidential run.”
He continued, “It’s embarrassing for anyone to link Senate President Akpabio to a presidential ambition while Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is effectively leading the nation with his Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Eyiboh urged the public to disregard these distractions and focus on the positive initiatives under Akpabio’s leadership in the Senate.
He also called on security agencies to investigate and expose those behind the misleading posters.
“We implore the public to ignore this unbridled mischief and remain focused on the Senate’s purposeful interventions,” Eyiboh concluded.
