The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has disclosed how suspected bandits, masquerading as vigilantes, kidnapped three family members in Abuja.

FCT Police spokesperson Josephine Adeh reported that the armed assailants invaded the community around 10:00 AM on Monday.

“On January 27, 2025, at approximately 1:00 AM, the FCT Police Command received an urgent call concerning an abduction and assault incident in the Chikakore community. Police operatives were promptly dispatched to the location,” she stated in a press release on Monday.

“Initial investigations indicated that seven unidentified individuals, posing as members of a vigilante group and wielding machetes and sticks, attacked the victim’s home.

“The assailants tricked the victim into opening his gate, subsequently abducting him along with three family members. A neighbor who tried to intervene suffered injuries during the assault and was swiftly transported to Kubwa General Hospital for treatment.”

Authorities have initiated search and rescue operations to secure the victims’ safe return and apprehend those responsible for the crime.

“The FCT Police Command urges residents of Chikakore and the wider public to remain calm and alert. Any information that could aid in the investigation and rescue efforts should be promptly communicated to the police,” Adeh added.
