The Police in Benue State on Wednesday confirmed the kidnapping of two female students of the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) formerly called Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM).

Witnesses said that the two students were kidnapped on Saturday night along the road leading to the university.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident to journalists in Makurdi without revealing the identities of the affected students.

Anene, however, confirmed that the incident happened on Saturday night at about 11 pm along North Bank/UniAgric road in Makurdi.

She said the incident did not occur within the university campus.

She said that the abductors had blocked the road, accosted the victims and whisked them away before the security operatives could arrive at the scene.
Anene further explained that the families of the victims and school authorities had notified the police and an investigation into the matter had already commenced.

Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations of the Institution, Mrs Lucy Iwodi, however, told journalists when contacted that she was yet to obtain the necessary permission from the school’s authority to speak about the matter.
