The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended two individuals accused of vandalizing electricity transmission cables and dismantling transformer parts in the Yusufari Local Government Area.

In a press release issued in Damaturu on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, identified the suspects as 23-year-old Kabiru Ibrahim from Sabon Garin Gashu and 24-year-old Abubakar Abubakar from the Bade Local Government Area. They were taken into custody in the Sunomari area of Yusufari Town.

Mr. Abdulkarim indicated that the arrests were made following reliable intelligence, and during questioning, the suspects admitted to their involvement in the crimes. He confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to facilitate their prosecution.

The statement also noted that local youths attempted to mob the suspects and set fire to a motorcycle belonging to one of them before law enforcement intervened to restore order.

Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Ado condemned the acts of vandalism and urged community members to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. He emphasized that the police would not tolerate any form of vigilante justice and assured the public that justice would be pursued through proper legal channels.

Mr. Ado encouraged citizens to continue providing valuable information to security agencies to help combat crime in the state.
