In a shocking incident on December 25, 2023, armed hoodlums took the life of Mr Patrick Ezugwu, the traditional ruler of Akutara in the Adani Autonomous Community, Uzo Uwani Council Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Kanayo Uzuegbu, has confirmed the arrest of eight suspects and vows to bring all responsible parties to justice, emphasizing the state’s zero tolerance for crime.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Kanayo Uzuegbu, wasted no time in responding to the tragic incident, promptly dispatching teams from the Criminal Investigation Department and the Area Command.

During his visit to the community, he assured residents that those found culpable would face severe consequences, emphasizing the commitment to unraveling the full extent of the crime.

Governor of Enugu State directed the immediate relocation of the Commissioner of Police to the local government, underlining the state’s determination to ensure that all involved in the heinous act face the consequences.

The governor, deeply concerned about the incident, has conveyed a strong message that criminals will not go unpunished.

Mr Chukwudi Nnadozie, Chairman of the local government area, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and assured the community that justice would prevail.

He highlighted the governor’s personal involvement, deploying local intelligence to uncover the culprits, and commended security agencies for their swift response.

The President-General of the community, Chief S.N Utazi, acknowledged the prompt response from the state government and security agencies but stressed the need for a thorough manhunt for the remaining suspects.

Dr Obinna Ayogu, the community’s Prime Minister, expressed shock at the murder of the peaceful royal father and appreciated the positive steps taken by the state government and security agencies in pursuit of justice.
