The Senior Pastor of Power City International Ministry, Abel Damina, has described the LGBTQ+ community as individuals experiencing identity crises rather than inherently bad or evil people.

Speaking on the Mic On podcast hosted by broadcast journalist Seun Okinbaloye, Damina urged understanding and guidance for those involved in LGBTQ+ activities.

“They’re just people who need to be brought back to a place of realization of their identity,” Damina said.

“When a person is suffering from identity crisis, he’s not a bad person. He just needs somebody to say, ‘Look, this is who you are. This is not who you are.’”

Damina emphasized the need for spiritual intervention, stating that a person must understand their origin and relationship with Jesus to grasp their true identity.

Using a biblical analogy, he referenced the transformation of Simon Peter in the Bible’s Gospel of Matthew.

According to Damina, recognizing Jesus as the Christ helped Peter uncover his true identity, transitioning from “Simon, but Jonah” to “Peter, the rock.”

“The revelation of Jesus unveils the identity of a man,” he noted.

“You can never know who you are until you know who Christ is.”

Addressing how society can assist LGBTQ+ individuals, Damina advocated for spiritual teaching rather than demonizing them.

However, he warned that unresolved identity crises could evolve into spiritual challenges.

“It begins, first of all, as identity crisis and may not even be demonic at that time,” he explained.

“But eventually, if nothing is done, then it becomes demonic. The Bible says, ‘Neither give place to the devil.’ When you create room for the devil and nothing is done about it, Satan will come in.”
