The Osun State Police Command has ordered political parties to suspend all planned rallies in Oriade Local Government Area, citing credible intelligence pointing to a potential outbreak of violence.
In a statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, advised parties to reschedule any political gatherings, campaigns, or processions scheduled for Wednesday in the area.
“This advice is based on credible intelligence and prevailing security concerns within the local government area,” he said.
Mr Ojelabi explained that the directive also stemmed from the uncooperative attitude of some political actors, adding that the command’s efforts to broker peace had ended in deadlock. A peace meeting earlier scheduled by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, with the concerned parties could not hold.
He described the measure as proactive, aimed at preventing any breach of the peace, safeguarding lives and property, and maintaining law and order.
“All political parties, candidates, supporters, followers, and members of the public are hereby urged to comply in the interest of peace,” Mr Ojelabi said.
The police spokesperson reaffirmed the command’s commitment to a peaceful and secure environment and called on residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with security agencies.
