The Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus has reaffirmed its support for Governor Ademola Adeleke amidst swirling rumours regarding his possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speculations concerning Mr. Adeleke’s shift to the APC have intensified in the lead-up to the governorship election scheduled for August 8, 2026.
Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, announced on Saturday that this backing was established during a meeting held on Thursday in Osogbo. He noted that the caucus expressed a vote of confidence in Governor Adeleke, encouraging him to maintain dialogue with stakeholders at both local and national levels.
In a communiqué released following the meeting at the Government House, Mr. Rasheed highlighted the caucus’s commendation of the governor’s leadership and his performance in office, stating their intention to follow him wherever he decides to go. He acknowledged, however, that the governor is still in the process of consultations regarding his next steps.
The meeting brought together members of the national and state assemblies, the state executive council, party executives, the Special Advisers’ Forum, the Elders Caucus, and the leadership of the state chapter of ALGON.
In another development, Governor Adeleke’s absence from the South-West Caucus meeting of the PDP in Ibadan on Friday has further fuelled speculation about a potential defection, particularly following his recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu last month at his private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.
