Wike’s Abuja revolution: Three years of unprecedented transformation

The condition and situation of the nation’s city and it’s area councils has been in a pathetic, worrisome and deplorable situation, particularly with regards to the sanity and neatness, compounded by the area councils in recent times , hence the Minister’s decision to embark on a wholistic and lasting decision, that will control the filthy environment that was getting out of hand in recent times.

Disturbed by this ugly development confronting the face of the nation, the Minister , Nzenwo Nyesom Wike who initially contemplated the private public partnership PPP, reversed his decision through the appointment of substantive 54 solid waste management vendors/contractors who are already embarking on the evacuation of wastes from the nation’s city and critically from the area councils.

Known for proactive tendencies, Wike directed the assumption of duty of the new contractors and ensure brisk and unhindered evacuation of wastes across the city and area councils without reservation.

While urging them to take immediate control of the FCT sanitation, the Minister enjoined them to devise the workings day and night to avoid any lapses , while making particularly references to area councils roads that had been turned to waste bins .

He reiterated the determination of the present administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to restore the cleaniness and neatness of the nation’s city, not only on infrastructure, and others , but sanitation must be on the priority list .

Wike maintained the determination to maintain environmental cleaniness and management going forward, stating that , strict monitoring and evaluation of their activities will not be underplayed.

The nation’s city sanitation situation and it’s area councils had been in a pitiable situation, as both residents and business conglomerate devised no means of easy and proper waste management and evacuation, hence making the environment not only filthy , but unhealthy.

Aside appointment of 54 waste management and control contractors, government should take action on residents and companies, both private and public organizations in the proper management of wastes in the FCT and it’s environs, along with strict monitoring.

For wike’s determination to keep the nation’s city and area councils clean is unwavering and determined to achieve immediate results , so as not to affect the healthy environment hitherto witnessed by the residents of the FCT.

Residents, corporate organizations, private and public entities is expected to key into the new wave of ensuring neatness and cleaniness in the FCT going forward, in line with the zeal of the present administration in the FCT under Nzenwo Nyesom Wike, and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The release continues..

“The Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) on Monday started full-scale monitoring of sanitation activities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as 54 solid waste management contractors resumed cleaning and waste evacuation operations.”

“Today marks the official commencement of operations by the new contractors, in line with the Minister’s directives. We are here on this first day of implementation to assess their deployment of equipment and personnel on the field,” he said.”

“Benjamin noted that the monitoring team had already covered the Central Business District (CBD), Maitama District and parts of Asokoro, adding that the contractors’ early performance was encouraging.”

The director said the oversight exercise would ensure strict implementation of contractual obligations and help maintain cleanliness across the city.”

“Residents who do not have proper waste bins need to get one immediately. Our next step is to conduct inspections to identify households without the required bins,” he warned.”

Benjamin expressed appreciation to the FCT Minister for approving the long-awaited city-cleaning contract, describing it as a major boost to the AEPB’s operations.

“He assured residents that the board would continue to monitor the contractors closely to ensure sustained improvement in sanitation standards across the capital city.”

“The performance is fair. They have started well. If they sustain this momentum, just as the Minister said, within five days residents will forget the environmental state they saw in the past,”
