The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) Assessment Team has praised the commitment of the troops involved in Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) for their relentless efforts against terrorism and criminal activity in Nigeria’s North-West and sections of the North-Central region.
This commendation was articulated in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Captain David Adewuse. The assessment was led by Major General W.B. Idris during a visit to the OPFY Headquarters in Gusau, Zamfara State, on 15 July 2025.
Major General Idris underscored the necessity for ongoing evaluations of joint military operations to ensure they align with strategic objectives and the overarching national goal of establishing a Joint Task Force. He remarked that the purpose of the visit was to review current operational activities, enhance inter-agency cooperation, and pinpoint areas for improving the efficacy of counterterrorism and anti-banditry initiatives in the region.
The Major General specifically commended the professionalism and coordination exhibited by the troops, including personnel from various security agencies engaged in OPFY operations. He acknowledged the resilience and commitment of the soldiers, particularly in light of the difficult terrain and multifaceted security challenges they face daily.
He urged the troops to maintain their current momentum and highlighted the importance of increased collaboration among security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to optimise operational success.
The Theatre Commander, Major General Oluyinka Soyele, expressed gratitude for the DHQ Team’s visit, describing it as a crucial step towards enhancing field operations. He reaffirmed his dedication to maintaining operational effectiveness and stressed the need to motivate troops while fostering collaboration among all security partners.
The team subsequently visited frontline troops in Kwotorkoshi and Tsafe, located in the Bungudu and Tsafe Local Government Areas of Zamfara State. During these visits, the team leader lauded the troops’ contributions and encouraged them to remain steadfast in fulfilling the objectives of OPFY. The DHQ Team’s visit was pivotal in boosting troop morale, validating ongoing efforts, and reaffirming the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the region.
