The Observers Times, a respected Nigerian online news platform, has strongly condemned the recent killings in Benue State, where over 200 people were reportedly massacred in a series of coordinated attacks.
In a statement released on Monday and signed by the organisation’s management, the outlet expressed deep sorrow over the violence, offering condolences to bereaved families and prayers for the souls of the departed.
“These senseless killings have inflicted immeasurable pain on families, devastated communities, and further entrenched the insecurity threatening our nation,” the statement read.
The platform decried the repeated cycle of violence in Benue, lamenting the government’s inability to protect lives or hold perpetrators accountable.
It called on the Federal Government to take urgent steps, including declaring a state of emergency in the worst-hit areas.
“For too long, the people of Benue have been subjected to recurrent assaults without meaningful intervention or justice,” the statement added.
“This persistent failure has emboldened attackers and prolonged the bloodshed.”
The Observers Times urged the immediate deployment of reinforced security operatives to vulnerable communities, stressing the need for bold and decisive action to prevent further carnage.
It also demanded a transparent and thorough investigation into the attacks, with swift prosecution of those responsible.
“Justice must prevail to break the grip of impunity fuelling these atrocities,” it said.
Beyond domestic efforts, the media organisation appealed to the international community to support peace-building initiatives in Benue, noting that rebuilding trust and security requires global solidarity.
