The students of Nasarawa state University, Keffi, have accused the new management under Prof. Sa’adatu Hassan Liman led administration for not lifting up to expectations in terms of promoting academic activities rather than focusing on collaboration with local and foreign organizations.

The students who made the accusation while speaking to newsmen in Keffi, lamented that the academic activities is poorly handled by the management, stating that lectures are not taking place frequently in line with the general academic standard.

According to them, management always sit in their various offices receiving visitors but abandoned their primarily responsibilities of monitoring and supervision of academic activities, saying since Prof. Sa’adatu took over as VC, nothing has changed positively.

“Since we resumed this semester, we received lectures three or four times, in fact, some lecturers have not even started their lectures.

They will fixed lecture and when we go, only to hear the announcement from course reps that it has been cancelled without given us congent reason”.

“This people don’t care about our knowledge, we paid school fees to acquire knowledge and not to come and eat our food or move around the campus without learning anything”.

The students advised Sa’adatu led management to sit up by ensuring that students acquire requisite knowledge which is the primarily aim of establishing the university.

“Anytime they go for an event, what they always discussed is collaboration and how to attract revenue or income to the university, even though collaboration is also a good initiative but they should not forget academic affairs. Let them ask, are lecturers perform their duties as expected? As a head, if you don’t care about what is happening, it means you are not ready to lead”.

Our correspondent also observed that Lack of lecture halls, is another major challenge facing the students and the university, as some of the students received lectures while standing due to lack of space and over population, even with that, students can’t listen to what the lecturer is saying only the students who are in the front can understand.

Some female students who are living in the hostel, interviewed, lamented that the hostel Is in bad condition, no proper maintenance by the authority, sometimes no water and power supply, this according to them posed serious danger to their lives and called for the urgent step to address their rights.

All efforts by our correspondent to speak with the head of information and protocol unit of the institution proved abortion as at the time of filling this report his phone number was not reachable.
