NSCDC rescues 13 victims of human trafficking in Kano

The Kano State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has rescued 13 victims of human trafficking on the state.

The State Commandant of the corps, Mohammed Lawal-Falala, disclosed this while briefing newsmen on Tuesday in Kano.

Lawal-Falala, disclosed that the victims were rescued on May 20, at Dan Tsinke Quarters in Tarauni Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, we received a piece of  information that a man kept young female children in his house and traffick them to Cameroon to seek for greener pasture.
”On receiving the information, a special surveillance was coordinated by the corps operatives attached to Tarauni Division and the victims were rescued.”
He also disclosed that one suspect was arrested by the operatives of the corps for keeping the victims in his house, while the two prime suspects were still at large.
He explained that the rescued victims included five women, three female children, a boy and four men.
“The rescued victims were on their way to Maiduguri enroute to Cameroon for labour exploitation.
“Out of the 13 victims, 10 are from Kano, while three are from Jigawa ” Lawal-Falala said
The commandant said that the victims would be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), for necessary action.
He called on residents in the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the command would continue to ensure a crime-free and safe state.
He called on parents to protect their wards from being exploited and lured into slavery in the name of seeking greener pasture.
Similarly, the corps also said that  it has arrested one suspect, who specialises in stealing tricycle and handsets.
Lawal-Falala said the operatives of the corps arrested the suspect on May 20, in Kano Metropolis.
“Several people have been coming to the command to lodge complaint against the suspect on tricycle theft”, he said.
He said that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
Meanwhile speaking to newsmen, the suspect said that he normally disguises as if he has fracture on his leg tied with bandage and board any a tricycle with his friends.
“Me and my friends will charter a tricycle and on reaching our destination, we will divert the tricyclist and use our key to steal it.
“I have stolen four tricycle. We take them to Katsina State and sell”, the suspect said. (NAN

Another Explosion Hits Oil Facility In Rivers, Protesters Block East-West Road

Another explosion occurred at a pipeline manifold in the Omwawriwa area of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State on Tuesday.

This incident follows a similar explosion that shook the Trans Niger Pipeline, operated by Shell, in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area just hours earlier.

The latest explosion reportedly took place at a manifold connected to a federal pipeline deep within the forest, which transports crude oil to Brass in Bayelsa State.

While the explosion has not yet been officially confirmed, community sources reported seeing massive flames and thick smoke rising from the oil installation in the forest.

Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, stated that she would investigate the incident but had not provided a response at the time of this report.

A video obtained by our correspondent displays a large fire burning in a remote location.

In a separate development, Ijaw youths blocked the Ahoada section of the East-West Road leading to Bayelsa State on Tuesday in protest.

The demonstrators, numbering over 100, carried placards in solidarity with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid his political dispute with the state House of Assembly. Some of the placards read: “We demand Wike’s dismissal as FCT Minister” and “Martin Amaewhule and 26 lawmakers have defected and lost their seats.

BREAKING: Reps pass tax reform bills

The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed the four tax reform bills transmitted to the National Assembly in October 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that the House had on Thursday last week, considered and approved the report of the House Committee on Finance which made some recommendations, particularly in controversial areas such as the Value Added Tax and inheritance tax.

While awaiting the Senate to similarly pass the bills, the proposed reforms are expected to be transmitted to the President for his assent in the days ahead.

Two PDP reps defect to APC over ‘internal divisions’

Two members of the house of representatives have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house, announced the defections in a letter read on the floor of the lower legislative chamber on Tuesday.
