Nkechi Blessing, the actress, has called on President Bola Tinubu to address the nation on measures to curtail the economic hardship in Nigeria.

Some Nigerians plan to stage a nationwide protest over the economic hardship in the country. The protest has been slated for the first week of August.

The federal government and Tinubu have appealed to the organisers to shelve the demonstrations.

The planned protest has also sparked mixed reactions among celebrities.

Actor Yul Edochie recently urged people not to protest but to be patient with Tinubu. Singer Portable also argued there is no reason to protest because “Nigeria is okay”.

Activist DJ Switch, however, called on Nigerians to unite ahead of the protest “if we want actual change”.

Actor Hanks Anuku also expressed his support for the planned nationwide protest.

Joining the fray, Blessing, in an Instagram post on Tuesday, pleaded with the president to share his plans to reduce the cost of living in Nigeria.

The actress said if Tinubu does not want the protest to hold, he needs to publicly address Nigerians, reassuring citizens of his plans to end the “sufferings in the land”.

“This message is for his excellency, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” she said.

“All protocol duly observed. Sir, I understand you do not want a protest in Nigeria, but all you need to do as our President is to come on national TV and address us. Explain the measures you are taking to restore food prices to normal.

“A lot of people are complaining. There is hunger in the land, and as a president to his citizens, we need to hear from you so that everyone can calm down. The sole reason for this protest is for people to voice their complaints and find solutions.

“It is a good thing that the government is seeing the plan for the protest because the main reason is to talk about how tired we are about things going haywire.

“So what are the plans you people are putting in place to listen to our plea? Because it’s now affecting the rich and the poor. I am not even in the rich category anymore, I’m now one of the poor masses.

“Pls sir, instead of trying to sabotage what they are trying to do, you have seen the reason for the the protest. What are the measures you are taking to provide solution that is the question now.

“With all due respect sir, I’m not trying to be disrespectful but what are the measures? Come to us, tell us. Talk to us like your children.”
