The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on the media, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society groups to rally behind the agency’s newly launched nationwide enlightenment campaigns.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday, Issa-Onilu said the five initiatives aim to promote public understanding of government policies, strengthen national values, raise security awareness, improve disaster preparedness, and foster a stronger sense of Nigerian identity.

The campaigns, described by the DG as a “coordinated national awakening”, will be conducted over 15 days from Wednesday, 20 August 2025, and will cover all 774 local government areas across the country.

Nearly 4,000 NOA staff members, deployed across 818 office locations nationwide, will carry out the outreach, which will include town hall meetings, market visits, school engagements, and community activities in religious centres and motor parks.

Issa-Onilu emphasised that the media and other stakeholders play a critical role in ensuring the campaigns reach Nigeria’s estimated 230 million citizens.

“This campaign will only succeed if our media partners and community leaders lend their voices and platforms,” he said. “We encourage everyone to join us in taking these messages to every corner of the country.”

The agency plans to produce campaign materials in English and major Nigerian languages, alongside daily programmes on radio, television, and social media.

Press briefings will also be held in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to keep the public informed and engaged throughout the initiative.

Issa-Onilu stressed that the campaigns come at a defining moment in Nigeria’s history, noting that informed citizens are vital for a thriving democracy, safe communities, and a strong national identity.
