The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has officially dismissed a viral video that claims the company sold adulterated Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly referred to as fuel, in bottles and jerrycans.
In a statement released on Thursday, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., confirmed that thorough inspections at all of the company’s retail outlets found these allegations to be unfounded.
“The NNPC Ltd. has been alerted to a video showing an individual pouring a dark liquid, which he alleges to be PMS purchased from an NNPC Retail outlet at Keffi Flyover,” Soneye stated. “We want to clarify that this product was not, and could not have been, obtained from any NNPC Retail outlet, as our company does not dispense petroleum products in bottles or jerrycans as depicted in the video.”
He emphasized that NNPC Ltd. maintains a strict policy against adulterated products, adhering to rigorous standards and quality control measures throughout its operations. “This commitment ensures that only high-quality, safe, and reliable petroleum products are offered at our stations nationwide,” the spokesperson added.
Soneye urged the public to disregard the misleading claims presented in the video and to remain cautious of individuals with ulterior motives who propagate such narratives, as they do not have the country’s best interests at heart.
He further highlighted that NNPC Ltd. prides itself on maintaining precise pump integrity through regular inspections and calibrations to guarantee consistency across all its stations nationwide.
