A Non Governmentental Organization NGO, has empowered smalholder farmer households in Nasarawa state with farm inputs and other insensitive to make them self reliant.
Coordinator of the organization in Nasarawa state, Mr. Jafia Stephen, revealed this during the closing ceremony of a programme tagged “Juriya Project, held at Alvari Hotel, GRA Keffi, today.
The project coordinator, said for now, four local government areas are already benefited from the programme to include, Keffi, Karu, Kokona and Nasarawa respectively.
While giving a breakdown of the beneficiaries, Mr. Jafia, said 1,360 are females, 1,582 are female youth in that category while 150 are people living with disabilities and 590 are internally displaced persons in that order.
He maintained that, 24 field agents have been trained on regenerative Agricultural integrated crops, trees and livestock practices and also serve as RA Ambassadors in their communities.
Jafia Stephen, further revealed that, 24 demonstration farms have been established and over 4000 households have received training, stating that 2,089 households have received farm input (Seeds, seedlings, and compost) input have also been distributed to demo plots among others.
Joram Nganga, the financial expert for the project, commended the beneficiaries for cooperating with the organization, stressing that the organization has the interest of the small holder farmers in a bid to equip them with skills to enable them be self reliant.
The training had in attendance representatives from the ministry of local government and community development and ministry for commerce and industry just as the participants were issued certificates for participation.
