The Conference of Patriotic Nigerians has called on all Nigerians, especially the opposition, to prioritize patriotism, understanding, and the safeguarding of the nation’s interests instead of amplifying trivial issues that do not warrant attention.

During a media discussion, Barrister Uchenna Odieli clarified that, contrary to speculations circulating on social media and various news platforms, Chief Ajuri Ngelale has not resigned from his position as presidential spokesperson. He has merely taken an indefinite leave of absence to address pressing family, health, and personal matters, as detailed in his press statement.

Odieli emphasized that Ngelale had formally communicated his need for leave to the Chief of Staff to the President, and this request was approved. Health and family matters are serious concerns that should not be taken lightly, which justifies his decision. He pointed out that former US President Joe Biden also handed over responsibilities to his vice president due to health issues, highlighting that such situations are not unprecedented. However, in Nigeria, this has been misinterpreted.

The rumors suggesting that Ngelale’s temporary absence is linked to disagreements with the administration are unfounded and should be dismissed. The Conference of Patriotic Nigerians firmly believes that Chief Ajuri remains dedicated to serving the President and the nation, and we are hopeful that his request for leave is entirely due to health reasons. COPAN wishes him a swift recovery and looks forward to his return to continue his important work.
