The National Emergency Management Agency on Wednesday launched a sensitisation campaign to minimise road crashes in Kano during the festive season.

The campaign was flagged off by NEMA’s Kano operations office.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the head of operations, Nura Abdullahi, said that the operation was designed to sensitise motorists and commuters on safe road use.

Mr Abdullahi said the exercise is aimed at complementing the FRSC’s efforts to educate commuters and motorists.

“The campaign would help reduce road crashes by enlightening road users and ensuring stricter compliance with traffic rules and regulations,” he said

According to him, the initiative was in support of the FRSC’s mandate to ensure safer roads across the country, especially during the ember months, when travel increases.

He noted that NEMA personnel and response equipment would be deployed to strategic locations to ensure prompt response to road accidents and other emergencies during the Yuletide.

“NEMA is always ready to cooperate with other critical stakeholders, particularly in disaster management, to curb the menace of road traffic crashes,” he said

He urged drivers to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to protect lives, property, and vehicles.

Mr Abdullahi cautioned motorists against dangerous driving, including reckless overtaking, overloading, and using mobile phones while driving.

“Our aim is to record zero tolerance for road traffic crashes, especially during and after this yuletide period,” he said.
