Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a Togolese woman for alleged drug trafficking at the Seme border in Badagry Area of Lagos.

A statement by the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi on Sunday in Abuja, said the NDLEA officers at the departure tarmac intercepted the suspect on Friday.

Mr Babafemi said that the suspect concealed 5,000 pills of tramadol in her luggage.

Similarly, a total of 1,040 kilograms of skunk, a strain of cannabis, were also recovered from an uncompleted building at Akodo village, Seaside Eleko, along the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, on Wednesday.

He also stated that a suspect was arrested with 1,499 bottles of Codeine syrup at Lambu, Tofa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kano State, on Wednesday, while conveying the consignment in his Volkswagen Golf car, marked CA 911 ABC.

“Another suspect was nabbed on Friday while transporting 87.4 kilograms of skunk in a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number, KUJ 544 RL along Zaria- Dutsinma road, Katsina,” he said.

In related development, Mr Babafemi said two suspects in Osun State, Adewale Fatunmise, 40 and Adebisi Korede, 25, were arrested by operatives of the NDLEA on Monday, February 23, in connection with the seizure of 18.085kg skunk, at the Aregbe area of Osogbo.

According to him, about 637,600 pills of opioids, including tramadol, diazepam and exol-5 were recovered by NDLEA operatives, acting on credible intelligence.

Mr Babafemi said the operatives on Thursday, February 26, intercepted a Mercedes-Benz vehicle marked KWL-607DC along Bali–Suntai road, while conveying the consignment to Baruwa in the Gashaka Local Government Area of Taraba State.

“A similar interdiction operation at Lankaviri area of the state led to the arrest of a suspected drug peddler and the seizure of 126.022kg skunk,” he said.

In another development, 499.2kg skunk was recovered at Dei -Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, on Wednesday, February 25.

He stated, “A suspect was intercepted in a commercial vehicle conveying 7,000 capsules of tramadol along Bama -Konduga road, in Borno State on Tuesday, February 24.”

He added that the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) social advocacy activities continued across commands and formations of the agency across the country in the past week.

He listed some of them to include the WADA sensitisation lecture to students and staff of Government Girls Science Secondary School, Tungan Magajiya, in Niger State and Federal Government College, Odo Oru, Ogbomoso in Oyo State.

Others were Government Day Senior Secondary School, Fagam, Jigawa and Government Science College Esuk Ekpoeyo, in Cross River State among others.
