The recognition came during the 2026 National Girls in ICT Programme, a globally inspired initiative adapted locally to drive female participation in information and communication technology.

As part of the event, 185 female students toured the NCC Museum in Abuja, where they explored the history and evolution of Nigeria’s telecommunications sector. The NCC noted that the visit offered practical insights into the industry’s growth and aimed to spark interest in technology-driven careers.

The commission added that the programme supports national efforts to deepen digital inclusion and bridge the gender gap in ICT by equipping young girls with relevant competencies.

Experts have long stressed the need for targeted interventions to boost female representation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), emphasising that early exposure significantly influences career trajectories.

The National Girls in ICT Programme remains a key part of ongoing government and industry strategies to build a more inclusive digital economy across Nigeria.
