Over 250 residents of Sabon Gero community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have benefited from a free medical outreach organised by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kaduna State chapter.

The exercise, held on Thursday, 30th October 2025, provided medical screening, laboratory tests, and free drugs to women, children and the elderly.

Chairperson of NAWOJ, Comrade Sahura Jibrin Maidoki, said the initiative aimed to extend essential healthcare services to the community, stressing that good health remains vital to human survival.

She expressed satisfaction with the large turnout, describing it as proof of the association’s positive impact. Maidoki also appealed to the Kaduna State Government to partner with NAWOJ in future public health programmes.

During the outreach, a child with a critical health condition was identified. The NAWOJ Chairperson pledged to escalate the case to relevant authorities for prompt intervention.

Former NAWOJ Kaduna Chairperson, Mrs Jummai Yerima, commended the present leadership for sustaining the association’s humanitarian vision. She urged members to unite and continue supporting the executives in advancing NAWOJ’s goals.

Yerima, who served two terms as state chairperson, prayed for divine wisdom for the new leadership and called on members who were absent to always prioritise the association’s welfare.

The Ward Head and Youth Leader of Sabon Gero community lauded NAWOJ for the gesture and encouraged other organisations to emulate the journalists’ example.
