A member of the National Association of Nigerian Students National Directorate on Security, Comrade Shobogun Oluwadamilare, has cautioned Nigerian students and youths against being used as political tools as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

Oluwadamilare gave the warning on Saturday while addressing students and youths, urging them to prioritise peace and avoid actions that could undermine Nigeria’s stability and development.

He said no society could achieve prosperity and development without peace, describing peace-building as efforts to negotiate freedom from violence and strengthen social bonds across different groups.

The NANS security directorate member urged students to embrace peaceful engagement regardless of age, gender, religion, ethnicity or social status.

He said the student constituency was ready for a peaceful, free and fair 2027 election.

Oluwadamilare also called on political actors to avoid exploiting young Nigerians for political purposes, stressing the need for responsible participation in the electoral process.

He commended the NANS President, Comrade Akinteye Babatunde, for what he described as visionary leadership and for strengthening the voice of Nigerian students.

Oluwadamilare said student activism had witnessed a positive shift under the current NANS leadership.

He also commended Chief Sunday Igboho for his collaborative efforts with security agencies through the Iru Ekun security network.

According to him, the network had contributed to efforts to tackle insecurity, including banditry and kidnapping.

Oluwadamilare urged students and youths to remain committed to peace and responsible civic participation as the country moves towards the 2027 general elections.
