Namibia’s Minister of Mines and Energy to Spearhead Collaboration at Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2023

Energy Capital and Power (ECP) (https://www.EnergyCapitalPower.com) is proud to announce that Tom Alweendo, Namibia’s Minister of Mines and Energy, will deliver an address as a keynote speaker at the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2023 Conference & Exhibition, scheduled for September 13-14 in Luanda.

During the AOG 2023 conference – which convenes under the theme, ‘Energy Security, Decarbonization and Sustainable Development,’ – Minister Alweendo will provide insight into Namibia’s recent oil, gas and green hydrogen success, and how strengthened cooperation with Angola will serve to accelerate the pace of the country’s development.

Namibia’s recent breakthroughs in the oil and gas sector, including significant discoveries at Venus-1X, Graff-1X, Jonker-1X, La Rona-1X, and Lesedi-1X prospects, present exciting opportunities for investors and project developers. In conjunction with favorable fiscal policies, the country has rapidly emerged as one of Africa’s most attractive hydrocarbon plays. As the country’s energy market expands, Namibia stands to learn a great deal from oil and gas heavyweights such as Angola, which represents the biggest oil producer on the continent.

In addition to oil and gas, Namibia’s Ministry of Mines and Energy is actively pursuing ambitious green hydrogen projects, opening doors for both regional and international players. Alweendo and the ministry are working closely with global partners including Germany to establish a green hydrogen hub in-country, but significant investments are still needed to ensure its growth and success.

Angola is also pursuing the development of large-scale green hydrogen facilities and plans to export its first green hydrogen cargo in 2024. As such, bilateral cooperation between Angola and Namibia in the green hydrogen sector can lead to shared knowledge and resources, fostering a strong and interconnected hydrogen economy.

“A collaborative approach to energy development is poised to strengthen energy security in the Southern African region, thereby attracting new investment and positioning Africa as a hub for innovation,” states Devi Paulsen-Abbott, CEO at event organizer ECP. “We are looking forward to once again hosting Minister Tom Alweendo in Luanda.”

During last year’s AOG event, Namibia inked a memorandum of understanding with Angola to enhance cooperation in the petroleum and natural gas sectors. At AOG 2023, Minister Alweendo will provide further insight into the opportunities for bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Abuja, and His Grace Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, Archbishop of Abuja will preside over its 33rd annual Thanksgiving celebration for persons with disabilities, taking place this Easter Monday.

In a press briefing held in Abuja on Thursday, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Barrister Ikem Uchegbulam, revealed that this year’s event will be held simultaneously in Abuja and Benin City, Edo State.

This strategic move, he said, is designed to ease travel for participants across Nigeria by offering a venue in both the northern and southern regions.

According to the organisers, His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Abuja, will officiate the Thanksgiving Mass in Benin City, where he is also expected to formally declare the Foundation’s annual activities open.

Simultaneously, His Grace Most Rev. Ignatius Kaigama, Archbishop of Abuja, will lead the Mass in the nation’s capital.

Thousands of guests are expected to attend the ceremonies in both cities, marking a significant return to Benin City — a location that last hosted the Foundation’s event 19 years ago.

The annual gathering is a central part of the Foundation’s mission to honour and empower Nigerians living with disabilities.

The event includes not only spiritual reflection but also an empowerment programme that distributes assistive devices and other forms of support to individuals across the country.

Speaking on the empowerment efforts, Anuniru Emmanuel O, the Programme Manager Officer of SDOF, commended the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities.

“We distribute items through our state coordinators, and we ensure proper follow-up through video and pictorial evidence,” he explained.

“When we receive images and videos of beneficiaries using the aid provided, we know the support is reaching the right hands.”

He recounted one such instance, in which a man with a physical disability in Akwa Ibom received a tricycle sent from Abuja. A video showed the man using the tricycle to fetch and transport water from a borehole — a powerful testament to the impact of the Foundation’s work in promoting independent living.
