The Nigerian aviation sector celebrates a significant milestone as the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) successfully concludes its Flight Calibration Exercise, a pivotal initiative aimed at enhancing flight safety across the nation. The event, held at the Abuja Airport Technical Building, garnered enthusiastic applause from stakeholders and passengers alike, echoing a shared sense of optimism for safer skies.
Organised in collaboration with NAMA’s technical partners, AFIS LTD UK, the exercise culminated in a formal Checkout Ceremony that brought together key figures from the aviation industry. The gathering underscored a collective commitment to advancing aviation safety and technical independence in Nigeria.
### Significance of the Flight Calibration Exercise
At the forefront of the event, Engr. Miri Selzing, NAMA’s General Manager of Calibration, emphasised the critical role this exercise plays in bolstering Nigeria’s aviation safety framework. “This initiative is not just about compliance; it’s about ensuring our airspace is secure and efficient,” he stated. The calibration exercise involved thorough assessments of navigation aids, ensuring they meet international standards vital for safe flight operations.
The Managing Director/CEO of NAMA, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, delivered a compelling keynote address, praising the exceptional professionalism displayed by pilots throughout the demanding calibration process. “Their resilience and dedication are commendable and reflect the growing capabilities within Nigeria’s aviation sector,” he remarked.
Celebrating Excellence in Aviation
The conclusion of the exercise was marked by the presentation of new epaulettes and Certificates of Honour to the pilots, recognising their outstanding performance. Engr. Farouk noted that this successful completion represents a commendable step forward in strengthening the nation’s indigenous aviation capacity, a goal that aligns with NAMA’s commitment to fostering local expertise.
Among the honourees were Mr. Oyedele Oluwaseun Jubril, a former Air Radar Traffic Controller, and Mr. Ajijola Abdul Kareem, a former Air Traffic Engineer, who have now transitioned into type-rated pilots with NAMA. Their achievements highlight the agency’s focus on developing skilled professionals within the industry, paving the way for a more self-reliant aviation sector.
Stakeholder Reflections on Progress
As the event drew to a close, stakeholders expressed their views on the advancements in the Nigerian aviation industry. One stakeholder remarked on the steady progress being made under the leadership of Engr. Farouk. “His commitment to enhancing the capabilities of the Nigerian Airspace Agency is evident, and we are witnessing positive changes in our aviation landscape,” he noted.
The event not only celebrated the successful completion of the calibration exercise but also reinforced the collaborative spirit among aviation stakeholders. With continued efforts and investment in local expertise, the future of Nigerian aviation looks promising.
A Vision for the Future
Looking ahead, NAMA aims to build upon this success by implementing more initiatives that focus on safety, efficiency, and sustainability in aviation. The agency is committed to ensuring that Nigeria’s airspace remains safe for all users while fostering an environment conducive to growth and innovation.
In conclusion, the successful conclusion of NAMA’s Flight Calibration Exercise marks a significant achievement for Nigeria’s aviation sector, reflecting a collective commitment to safer skies.
