Meningitis Hits Jigawa, 367 People Affected

367 suspected cases of cyriburum spinal meningitis were reported in Jigawa state out of which 80 cases were confirmed.

The permanent secretary state ministry of Health Dr Salisu Muazu revealed this while briefing Director General of the Nigeria Center for Dieses Control (NCDC) Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa during his official visit to the state.

He said the cases were reported from the 17 local government area of the state out of which over 70 percent were from local government along Nigeria and Niger republic boarder in the state.

” Most of the identified cases are imported from Niger republic because Zinder is near Maigatari boarder and they don’t have facilities to accommodate meningitis cases, thi made them to report the case in our facilities”

” Sofar no report of death from the cases, however our disease survelane mechanism are strengthen while all other necessary measures including adequet supply of medicine have been taken to chekmate the outbreak ” Sali declared

Dr Salisu added that, other local government affected included Suletankar , Gumel , Gagarawa , Baburan, Gwaiwa, Roni, Birniwa local government.

In his response,the DG NCDC Dr. Ifedayo Adetifa said, he visited the state to asses the situation ànd analyze the kind of intervention needed from the Commission in respond to the outbreak.

He than assured the Jigawa state Government that NCDC will provide all the needed support including supply of medicine other technical and logistics support without any further delay for tackling the disease.
