The Minister of State for Defence and former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has challenged the state government to account for what he described as more than ₦1tn received with no visible results.

Addressing a massive crowd of APC supporters in Gusau, Matawalle delivered a fiery message on transparency and responsible governance, accusing the administration of failing to justify the unprecedented financial inflow.

“Zamfara has collected over one trillion naira. Show me what they have done with it,” he declared, prompting loud outbursts from supporters who echoed their frustrations over insecurity, poor infrastructure and worsening hardship.

He argued that no government receiving such huge allocations should struggle to showcase tangible progress, saying the funds were enough to transform security, roads, health facilities, schools and economic opportunities across the state.

The former governor said:
“One trillion naira is not a small amount. Yet our people are still facing the same conditions of hardship and neglect.”

He challenged the government to name at least one major project executed with the funds, questioning why communities still grapple with dilapidated roads, weak hospitals, persistent bandit attacks and poor learning environments.

Supporters responded with chants and placards demanding a published breakdown of state expenditure. Some accused the administration of wasteful governance that had produced no meaningful change.

Matawalle insisted that accountability is not a political slogan but a fundamental requirement of credible leadership.

“A responsible government must account for every kobo it receives,” he said, stressing that the people of Zamfara “must never be treated as if they cannot understand how their money is spent.”

He warned that silence in the face of questionable spending only deepens corruption and widens suffering.

According to him, genuine leadership ensures that public funds become public blessings—better roads, safer communities, stronger schools and improved livelihoods.

Matawalle told supporters that the APC remains committed to restoring accountability once returned to power.

He urged them to stay politically alert as the state approaches a new phase.

By the end of the rally, the atmosphere had shifted from anger to renewed resolve. Supporters agreed that citizens have every right to demand answers about state finances.

What began as a political outing became, for many, a call for honest governance in a state grappling with years of mismanagement.

The rally closed with chants demanding full transparency and a future where every naira can be traced and every decision serves the people.
