The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) national transition committee has intensified pressure on Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), to step down from his position.

On Tuesday, a gathering of NLC members and party affiliates convened at the Labour Party headquarters in Abuja to demand the immediate resignation of Julius Abure as the National Chairman.

The LP crisis has entered a new phase, with Abure enjoying support from influential figures within the party. However, acting chairman Abdulwaheed Omar led the NLC in chanting solidarity songs and calling for Abure’s resignation, citing the expiration of his tenure as party chairman.

Although the party has not yet issued an official statement, Abure has consistently asserted that he was duly elected during the party’s convention in Delta State earlier this year.

Upon arriving at the party’s headquarters, NLC members encountered locked gates and faced resistance from security officials.

In response, the police resorted to using tear gas to disperse the protesters.

Undeterred, the protesters persistently appealed to the security personnel to open the gate, their voices resounding in the air.
